Five-year-old Bettors Delight mare who has won 5 and placed 9 of 53 start. As a 3-Y-O filly she won 5 of 24 and got to NR 65. She then returned from a spell on too hard a mark and took time to hit form. She ran second in a heat of the 4-Y-0 Vicbred Platinum (coming from well back with the last half in 56.5) and qualified for the final but didn’t run, ran second to Onedin Punter (winner of 5 from 9 since coming from NZ) then led and ran second to La La Land (winner of 4 from 7 since coming from NZ) last half in 56.7 around Mildura.
After that her form tapered right off, but we just kept racing her out of form to enable her rating to reduce. She is now rated NR 51 and returned from a six-month spell on 17 June with an incredibly unlucky fourth (probably would have won with different drive).
All six of our horses with trainer Scott Garraway have been stood down indefinitely by HRV stewards, acknowledging fully that Scott has not been charged with breaching any rules of harness racing in relation to this matter. I have a letter from HRV stating that an out of competition swab sample from Coco Beach “returned a Cobalt concentration exceeding that set-out in the rules” and that “the horses currently not permitted to race may do so upon a clear sample being provided”.
Coco Beach is being sold in order to enable disillusioned owners to exit the industry. Also for sale are Miss Twinkle, Glam Rock, This Is Bill and Promise Me Heaven. James Charles has already been sold. This ownership group has enjoyed great success with 221 winners over the past 9 years, and the five horses currently being offered for sale were a big part of that, winning 36 races between them and with plenty more wins in store.
Coco Beach is in full work and was accepted to run on 7 July but has been stood down by HRV since then. She wears simple gear, no pole or spreaders, tries her heart out and is currently located in Mildura.
This is an opportunity to buy a progressive mare by number one sire Bettors Delight who has only had one run for a long spell and is currently on a very generous rating mark compared to her demonstrated ability.
We are unsure what she is worth in the current circumstances but are asking $8,500. She will be sold this week if we can get a realistic offer for her, so don’t be afraid to make an offer. As we are leaving the industry, we are not interested in leasing her.
